What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?
CBT is a short term talking therapy that helps people identify the links between their cognitions (thoughts), emotions, bodily sensations and behaviours, as set out in the diagram above.
Initial CBT sessions help you become aware of unhelpful patterns of reacting to triggering thoughts, sensations and emotions.
CBT has been evidenced to help with…
Depression and low mood
Anxiety disorder
Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)
Phobias including both specific and social phobia
Obsessional Compulsive Disorder
Health Anxiety
Why choose CBT over other therapies?
CBT is an active short-term, evidence based structured therapy that builds on a person’s existing strengths and skills and tailors additional skill development for everyday life.
Interventions including psycho-education, cognitive restructuring, behavioural activation and experiments are used to enable the person to subsequently respond to these triggers in a more effective and helpful way.
